Brunel University has Tested the effect of Militec-1 in a Air Conditioning system.

University Background.

"Brunel University carries out one of the largest single and two-phase heat transfer research activities in the UK".  Professor Savvas Tassou is head of the Unit as well as Head of the School of Engineering and Design.  Brunel University has several Government Research Grants in the area of  Thermodynamics as a consequence of their expertise.

Test purpose:  To establish the effect of the MILITEC additive oil on performance.

Make: Amcor
* EER rating: C.
* 4400W.  (Total Power Drain)
* 14000 Btu/hr (4100W) cooling capacity.
* Ventilation (fan) only, cooling or automatic control option.
* Adjustable thermostatic control with digital temperature readout.
* 2 speed turbo fan.
* Dehumidifies as it cools removing excess water via the exhaust hose.
* 1-12 hour timer.
* Adjustable directional air discharge louvres.
* Self sealing refrigerant pipe work for easy DIY installation.
* 30kg indoor unit.
* 11kg outdoor unit.
* Dims: (HWD) indoor: 750x380x400mm, outdoor: 460x420x250mm.

Technology:
To avoid any "improvements to technology", a split type unit where cooling and exhaust heat are separated was requested. Likewise a unit with a rotary compressor was chosen as rotary compressors are more efficient. Overall  "the unit"  represents the latest trend in commercially available room air conditioning unit design and performance as at 2006.

External Factors:
In order to avoid the factors of unit wear, age and overall condition a new unit was requested. Air Flow, Temperature and Humidity where controlled within the Environment Chamber.

Results:

  • Electricity savings of 40 Watts (Unit draws on avg. 40W less while running).

  • Indications of better internal unit performance. (Evaporator Temp. Differentials )

  • Indications of less superheating of the refrigerant during compression arising from lower friction and other compressor losses. (Compressor Temp. Differentials)

  • Due to similar heat transfer principles in operation for refrigeration units and refrigerators the savings in these units is estimated to be in the range of 3 to 5 %

Cost of Militec-1:

  • 7.8 ml used

  • Cost less than 55 pence (Incl. VAT)

  • Estimated payback for 55 Pence in electricity savings:
